Since the calendar summer is upon us, I thought that maybe a lighter post should be in order as the world is unpredictable complex enough at this point in time.
In this post I would like to share with you what I like doing not only in the summer but in general, activities that give me pleasure, help me slow down when I’m moving faster than I should.
I do like the slower pace of life and slow creativity because I like to give space to my creativity and my creative artworks. Slower pace of life makes me really aware of life, time passing by but also helps me be in the moment.
I would also like this post to become a dialogue to get to know you, my lovely readers more and on a deeper level.
A dialogue in the world divided and fragmented seems to be a real act of resistance and resilience building. Because when people talk ideas flow, projects emerge and in general life becomes better and happier.
So here is my list, I bet I have forgotten something but, in the Summer of 2026, this is what I treasure in life (I’m excluding kids and family time from this list as my kids and our family time are the most important to me.):
– I love being in the water and near the water and that includes swimming.
– Long walks even in a hectic city.
– Drinking hot tea and chocolate the season doesn’t matter. I find hot drinks very refreshing and nurturing in the summer.
– Watching films from the 90s and 2000s. Those productions don’t overwhelm my senses as much as the more recent films.
– Reading. I love books, posts, articles and audiobooks as well as screenplays. Every now and then I also read poetry.
– Writing is my happy place, and it doesn’t matter if I use a computer, pen and paper or a napkin.
– Knitting, crocheting and weaving. (All 3 are part of my creative art practice but I also like making handmade gifts.)
– Watching the clouds.
– Cooking when I have the time and the brain space, so I don’t have to stress and rush.
– Slow travelling. It allows me to become more immersed in one place. Part of my slow travelling is going back to the same places, which helps me discover them over and over again.
– Slow living. I don’t like rushing, which clashes with my current place of residence (London, UK).
– I like pink walls, mugs, cooking pots, flowers etc. Pink is my happy colour.
– I like having space to create. Not only a physical space but also brain space.
– I like making artwork (aka creating something that wouldn’t have existed if I hadn’t done that).
– I like having coffee with friends. I only drink decaf and luckily majority of coffee shops serve decaf nowadays.
– I like farmers markets and artists markets.
– I like buying art from local artists, even if it’s something very small.
– Zero waste shops give me hope that change is possible and of course I like supporting my zero waste shops.
– Kombucha is my cold drink of choice.
– Cold lemonade and hot winter tea in Poland. If you ever travel to Poland, you have to try both as home-made lemonade and hot winter tea are very specific in this part of Europe and you won’t be able to find anything else like that in any other part of Europe.
– I do enjoy baking, especially a rhubarb pie as it reminds me of my granny, her allotment and my simple childhood in the 80’s.
– My balcony garden.
– Watching the sunset.
– Rainy days at home.
– Discovering a new coffee shop especially when I travel to places I already know.
– Parks & forests for walking, forging and having picnics. (When I was growing up forging was pretty big in Poland.)
– Any type of fresh berries, which I only buy during the season. (I do try to buy seasonal foods throughout the year.)
– Smelling, growing and observing wildflowers. Wildflowers are my favourite flowers there is just something eternally mystical and beautiful about them.
– Drying flowers especially the ones I grew on my balcony garden.
– Observing how nature changes over each season.
– Shopping when it’s not busy. In general, I don’t like shopping but going to shops, which are empty is something I can manage every now and then.
– Collecting notebooks, which I often use for my art projects.
– Eating & making soups.
I’m pretty sure I have forgotten something, but that’s life, right?
I would love to hear from you, what do you like in the summer or this particular season of your life. Let’s keep the conversation going and growing.
