The veil between what’s real and what’s fake is blending in 2026 and that’s not even taking into consideration all the possibilities for “faking”, “changing” and “influencing” the reality using AI tools.
I don’t own a TV and hardly ever watch or read mainstream media. However, I do read the Guardian from time to time. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that factual mistakes have become more common
Regardless of the mistakes the Guardian, makes my trust in the mainstream media has been eroding over the years. Who owns the media outlets matters. We live in the world where left leaning outlets become propaganda outlets for tyranny and autocracy overnight. Hence, more and more I find myself drawn to the alternative media outlets aka individuals and media outlets that are not owned by the billionaires and multi-billion dollar corporations.
Luckily, there are quite a few both in the UK and the US where the viewer can get a better perspective into what’s happening in the world.
In the past few weeks, I’ve shared and swapped the links to the alternative news outlets with my friends, and colleagues, my guess is that there is a need for this information to circulate.
Below I’m sharing my list, it’s not comprehensive so if you listen or watch someone worth adding to the resistance news list do share the links in the comment section below (I also don’t watch or listen to all that content all day every day. I’m very selective and do protect my mental health from the massive overwhelm the geopolitical situation became to me.)
News/ Commentators/ Social Political Issues:
UK
Garys Economics – Gary earned his money as a trader in London, UK so he is very wealthy and not ashamed to talk about it. However, on his YouTube channel he talks about inequality, the gap between middle and working-class people and the millionaire class. He is also a proactive champion of taxing the rich (his motto is: tax wealth not work).
Novara Media – left leaning media organisation. They are on YouTube and have their own publication. They comment on the current news, have interesting long form interviews and organise in-person events.
No Justice – lefties streamer, often co-operates with Novara Media.
Green Party of England & Wales – video podcast started by Zac Polanski, who is currently the Green Party leader in England & Wales.
Politics JOE – run by a young generation of journalists and political commentators. Apart from commenting on the political landscape, they talk to Britons on the streets asking for their opinions alongside reporting on pressing social and economic issues.
US
More Perfect Union – I’m a big fan of their programs as seeing what the US legislators, politicians and corporation to do to communities and ordinary people is eye opening to what might be and most likely will be at some point mirrored in the UK. It is a nonprofit newsroom, and their journalists are not only relatable but people who are passionate about making a real difference and focusing on real issues.
Heather Cox Richardson – political historian who in the easiest possible way is able to shed a light on the current political craziness. She uses a lot of historical references, to put the events that take place into a broader context.
Mary Trump Media – very passionate about independence and independent media, at least this is how she comes across.
things your mom should’ve told you – talks about politics and the political, social and economic situation in the US from a perspective of an expat living in Spain.
Parkrose Permaculture – started off as a permaculture channel but turned into a political commentary. And yes, permaculture is political because you need land, a stable living space to grow your food and if land is not available or stable living is not accessible it becomes political. So the cross over between the two is totally relatable and understandable.
Richard D Wolff – professor of economics and a critic of the contemporary capitalism and the leading proponent of an alternative economic system based on Worker Self-Directed Enterprises (WSDEs). Some of his analysis I completely disagree with, but he is definitely worth listening to.
Robert Reich – former Secretary of Labour and Director Jacob Kornbluth, runs a very interesting channel that focuses more on storytelling and communicating with his audience through narrative, graphics as well as interviews and chats. Very creative and tries to reach people from across the age groups.
Bernie Sanders – I don’t think Bernie needs much introduction. We do love Bernie in Europe as well.
I’ve Had It – political podcast run by two very fierce women, both are power houses and not afraid to speak their minds. We need more women like them in the media, politics and communal spaces and places.
Keith Edwards – looks at information that no one else would probably pay attention to (too much shit is going on).
Environmental Updates
Simon Clark – based in the UK, British scientist. His videos are climate related, and he is not afraid to speak up his mind.
ClimateAdam – based in Germany, British scientist talks about the environment in a very inclusive and entertaining way.
Just Have a Think – based in the UK, Dave often does deep dive analysis of academic papers, and research publications and breaks it down to his viewers.
Lifestyle (sustainability, finances & alternative lifestyle)
my BIG tiny house life – based in Canada Adelina talks about her simple living in her tiny house, shares a tone of mega nice vegan recipes on a budget. (I’m a massive fan.)
a black girl in the woods – she left the city, her soul draining job, lives in the forest and shares her journey in amazingly gentle videos.
Happen Films – documentary films production company that focuses on sustainable living through growing food, gardens and communities. As a company they don’t exist any longer, but you can still watch the most amazing wealth of life changing films.
Kara Perez – Kara talks about money, how to save, invest and live on a budget. I do like her and a lot of the tips she shares I’ve been following for years. She is based in the US so her experience and perspective are very different to the European experience. However, it is still worth following her.
Freedom Forest Life – South of England farm, growing, gardening, homesteading.
Hoggs in The Paddock – Kim and Del Hogg share their experience of building a tiny house in Scotland.
Our Island Life – for anyone looking for an isolated island life, this is a channel you should check out.
Sean In Alaska – Sean moved to Alaska to build his dreamed house and lifestyle on his own, without much prior experience (I think so, that is my conclusion from some of his videos). I don’t watch his channel as religiously as I do my BIG tiny house life but his pro-action and DIY solutions are inspirational.
Anders Boisen – based in Denmark, former city dweller who gave up the glamour of the city for simplicity of the woods. Very honest look into the ups and downs of creating an off-grid sustainable living.
GrowVeg – based in the UK gardener, very down to Earth. If you have a back or a front garden you would like to turn into a market garden and grow your own food the channel is worth watching especially if you live in the British climate.
Art We There Yet? – one of my favourite people online. Two artists traveling the America’s on a bus, making art, spreading the creativity bug and telling amazing stories.
Living Big In A Tiny House – I’m a big fan of the show, lots of tiny houses from across the world. Tiny houses are an alternative to mainstream housing shortages and their environmental footprint is also much smaller than traditional housing, while offering an opportunity to be more self-sufficient.
Little Spanish Farmstead – young couple restoring an old property in Spain. Pretty inspirational as they do everything themselves (sometimes they get help from volunteers) and have a clear vision for what they want.
Exploring Alternatives – Canadian based channel, which focuses on an alternative to the mainstream housing & living.
Everything Kindred – I like their videos a lot. They don’t make many but the couple behind this channel changed their lives during the pandemic. They moved out of London (at least I think it was London) to a countryside. They seemed to be very happy and content with the gentle pace of life they crafted for themselves.
Laura Oldanie – based in Florida, talks about money and lifestyle choices for a more environmentally sustainable future.
If You’re Listening – this is a podcast produced by ABC so not very independent, but it has fantastic graphics incorporated into overlooked context. The podcast looks at the current global issues from a historical perspective and how the past is still dictating the future.
No Impact Girl – Louise Southerden is an award-winning travel writer based in Australia and writing about tiny, simple, sustainable living. I’m a big fan of her work.
PS. I’m made by Made by Dyslexia, so expect small typos and big thinking.
