When you are an independent filmmaker, you must wear lots of hats; especially when you are the brains behind the project.
When I was making my feature film “Anna & Modern Day Slavery” I was:
– the writer
– the producer
– the director
– the editor
– the marketer and promotor (sales agent)
– I ran all three crowdfunding campaigns, so I was the person who was seeking the funding
– I was the film festival contact person
And I know very well I’m not an exception in this.
Independent filmmakers are multi-skilled individuals who are not afraid of challenges and hardships. We get the job done, and we do wear lots of hats, learn on the job, and if there is something we don’t know, we get educated.
To all the hats listed above I need to add one more:
– the distributor; of course you will need a team of people to help you, but becoming a distributor of your own work has become possible and available for the independent crowd thanks to the VOD. So choose the colour of your new hat and wear it proudly while learning on the job, making mistakes, and reaching the right audience with your film.
